To the Lighthouse Poster

The cover of the first edition of Woolf's 1962 novel To The Lighthouse featured this artwork by her sister, Vanessa Bell. Much as the novel, the lighthouse in Bell's design is central and yet tantalisingly just out of reach - as the shape of the lighthouse is evoked only, with Bell's impressionist style and characteristic curves depicting the swirling sea.
