'Would you approve of your young sons, young daughters - because girls can read as well as boys - reading this book? Is it a book you would have lying around your own house? Is it a book that you would even wish your wife or your servants to read?' So spoke chief prosecutor Mervyn Griffith-Jones in the public prosecution of Penguin Books under the Obscene Publications Act 1959 for the publication in November 1960 of DH Lawrence's Lady Chatterley's Lover. His remarks caused much mirth in court and were widely ridiculed as evidence of the British establishment's anachronistic moral values.
This landmark censorship trial saw the publisher acquitted, heralding a new era of liberal social mores, perhaps even kickstarting the 'sexual revolution" of the 1960s, along with the Pill, The Beatles and pop counterculture.
Another great design from The Radical Tea Towel Company.

- We recommend that before you use your tea towel for the first time you wash it at least once to soften up the material and make it more absorbent for drying dishes
